Cultural Issues in Audiovisual Translation

Summary/Abstract: Although the question of translating culture has always intrigued translators and traductologists, it has become more influential in audio visual translation, because the viewer not only has the original soundtrack version, but also a visual representation of the situation, which easily allows him to make a comparison and to judge the efficiency of the translation. Thus, the mission of the audiovisual translator becomes more delicate. To identify this problem it is necessary to ask the following questions: What are the cultural issues related to the audiovisual translation? How to manage this cultural invasion causedby different types of audiovisual translation, including subtitling? How can we preserve and protect our culture while opening up to others, and make the most of their translational and cultural experience?
