Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the work. The article is devoted to Valeriy Nikitovich Ivko – the prominent Ukrainian domrist, conductor, teacher, composer. The emphasis is on the methodological principles of his teaching activities. On the basis of the analysis of the methodical work of V. Ivko, his students and the use of the experience of work in his class, an attempt is made to outline the main elements of the technique of the domrist, the education of which is a prerequisite for the formation of performing skills. The research methodology is based on historical, phenomenological and structural-functional approaches, as well as on the positions of branches of musicology science, related to the method of teaching games on folk instruments. The scientific novelty of the article is that for the first time the systematic methodological principles of V. Ivka on the theory of performance on the domra formed during his many years of teaching activity at the chair of string-pinch instruments of the S. S. Prokofiev Donetsk State Music Academy. Conclusions. Among the main aspects of the theory of performing on the domra are the most important V. Ivko believes the sensation of musical time based on a clear idea of its structure and wave nature; education of intonational culture (on the basis of basic means of expressiveness – dynamics, agogics, articulation) as an instrument for constructing the form of a work in time-space; taking into account three levels of intonational thinking, where the priority is the development of a special, «polyphonic», thinking; obligatory condition of all processes by auditory representations.
