Summary/Abstract: The contribution deals with the historical and constitutional grounds of academic autonomy. Consideration the upcoming changes in the field of higher education, it concerns the question, whether restrictions of the academic autonomy would breach the historical traditions and constitutional grounds of the Czech Republic. The author comes to the conclusion that it does not. Firstly, because the contemporary range of the academic autonomy does not correspond to the traditional one. Furthermore, the constitutional order does not incorporate any unconditional right to academic autonomy.
