The tradition of wishing many years of life in Ukrainian folklore

Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Research. The purpose of the article is to investigate the place and the peculiarities of the existence of the tradition of wishing many years of life in Ukrainian folklore. Methodology. The methodology of the research is to apply methods of analysis, synthesis, synthesis and systematization of numerical collected musical and folklore materials. Scientific Novelty. The scientific novelty of the work is to determine the place and peculiarities of the existence of the ancient tradition of wishing many years of life in Ukrainian folklore: folk dumas, caroling wishing, vertep and wedding ceremonies. Conclusions. The wish of many years is a concise and symbolically-filled congratulation, serving as the conceptual conclusion of most celebrations. These characteristics contributed to the wide popularization of the tradition in Ukrainian folklore and the formation of a self-sufficient musical genre Polychronion. The study of this phenomenon makes it possible to comprehend the life-affirming component of the rich treasury of the Ukrainian musical tradition.
