SMEs During Global Financial Crisis in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Previous studies have shown that the reaction of the enterprise sector on the global financial crisis have not been homogenous one. The depth and length of the business slowdown after 2008 might have been different depending on – among others - size structure of the economy. The article aims at explaining some issues related to the activities of SMEs during the financial crisis. In particular, the hypothesis that SMEs are responsible for extended economic recovery in European Union is being verified on the experiences of Poland. The conclusion is that SMEs can contribute significantly to the economic recovery provided that they have proper access to external financing.
