Summary/Abstract: This article presents the latest changes in consumer bankruptcy law, which entered into force on December 31, 2014. The main aim of the new regulations was to eliminate formal and rigorous requirements of bankruptcy proceedings and to enable more debtors to file for bankruptcy. In the era of households financial crisis and growing indebtedness of consumers, the bankruptcy of a natural person who does not conduct business activity became a necessity. However, the institution of polish consumer bankruptcy still does not fulfill its function, mainly due to the privileged position of the financial institutions.
