Summary/Abstract: Analysis of the declared determinants of professional success indicates factors determining career development. These include financial security, development, recognition, worklife balance. The need to find a sense of the meaning of life at work is hardly exposed by employees. Confronting this observation with the assumption that man as an organism is able tofunction properly by conducting an efficient exchange with the environment, and returning tothe assumptions of psychologists examining the issue of self-actualization (self-realization,meaning of life) there arise the arguments that undermine the current interpretation of this issue in the context of professional activity. The aim of the article is to redefine the essence and significance of self-fulfilment in professional life, and to indicate the leading need in the career development.
