Summary/Abstract: The investment attractiveness of the region is one of the factors determiningits development. Attracting investments, being a derivative of the region’s location assets, contributes to the increase of socio-economic potential. Factors determining investment attractiveness do not have to be homogeneous for all regions. The aim of the paper is to indicate the main determinants of investment attractiveness of Polish poviats, taking into account their differentiation between groups of poviats similar in this respect. The analysis was based on twenty five selected diagnostic variables. As a result of the analyzes, two groups of poviats were distinguished. One, with 68 units, includesall urban poviats (66 units) and only two land poviats. Factor analysis, aimed at indicatingthe orthogonal factors determining the level of attractiveness, allowed the isolation of six or seven (depending on the group) factors transferring about 80% of the variance of diagnostic variables. Some of these factors have a clear interpretation.
