Summary/Abstract: Knowledge plays a dominant role in the process of creating value and it is the most important factor in the development of various types of organizations. The basis for the effective functioning of organizations in the current socio-economic conditionsis the proper management of knowledge. Knowledge and information technologies are used in the knowledge management process, and above all, in the management information systems. They allow, among others, for quick processing and automatic analysis of information, as well as generating knowledge by automatically drawing conclusions based on the results of this analysis. Increasingly, they also have the ability to understand the significance of the phenomena occurring in the organization’s environment. The operation of the management information system is similar to group decision making bya human being. Therefore, the management of collective knowledge and making decisions based on it (often in an automatic way) in management information systems is one of the areas of collective intelligence. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to develop a formal method of representing the knowledge of an economic organization in the management information system. The problems of knowledge in business organization and the method of representing collective knowledge in the management information system have been presented.
