Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the paper was to analyze the motivation systems applied to professional soldiers. Two neighboring military units employing 1000 professional soldiers in total were selected for the study. The opinions were collected using a questionnaire from 200 soldiers employed in the two units. These units were Battalion of Electronic Combat and the Center for Logistics Training. Research has shown that the highest assessed elements of motivational systems were economic incentives, including wages and cash prizes. The soldiers also highly appreciate the praise, congratulation letters, award leaves and honorary badges obtained as part of the awards. A significant group of respondents criticized the incentive systems applied to soldiers, especially in the area of penalties, prizes and awards. Respondents also indicated the need to improve relations between superiors and subordinates.
