Summary/Abstract: Functioning of the blood donation system is one of the most important elements ofthe state’s health safety system. Any failure in this area results in reduced chances of citizens toeffectively save lives and health. The aim of the article is to identify the components of effectiveness in managing blood supply chains in Poland. Authors, basing on collective case studies,seek answers to two questions: (1) how in practice factors that reduce the effectiveness of operations within supply chains and the resultative blood supply chains are identified, and in contrast to this question (2) what the desirable components of the effectiveness of functioning blood supply chains are. Knowledge on this subject will help to improve health securityand identify areas of improvement and possible concepts to be used.
