Summary/Abstract: Gastronomy and the city are two inseparably connected concepts. Interestingly, despite the fact that the development of both these fields was still functioning side by side,it is only recently that attention is paid to the role that gastronomy plays in urban spaces. The problem raised in this article is the issue of the role of catering services in cities, with particular emphasis on their importance in the context of urban logistics. The aim of the article is to show the importance of gastronomy in the city space based on the analysis of the centuries long process of transforming urban space from offering food on the street (gastronomic production) to the most-developed form of catering services in cities – culinary districts.
