Hate Speech in European Criminal Law

Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes restrictions to free speech which correspond to hate speech in comparative criminal law in Europe. The ways in which states make restrictions to free speech in their respective criminal laws gives a clear picture of the values they cherish. The difference in their approaches can point to the difference which certain societies attach to the dignity of certain social groups or of the individual which belong to these groups and are objects of protection.
