Summary/Abstract: In this article the author gives background information about peace plans for Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995, provides an overview of what was offered and describes various attempts of mediation and why they failed, such as the Cutileiro plan, the Vance-Owen peace plan, the Owen-Stoltenberg plan, the Contact Group plan and the Dayton peace plan, which resulted in the Dayton Agreement. Although the Dayton-Paris Agreement resulted in the creation of Republika Srpska, it has major drawbacks: certain parts of the territory were lost (Visoka Krajina, the Neretva Valley, Sarajevo region, southern part of Mt. Ozren and parts of Posavina), settling the Brčko issue by international arbitration and permanent threats of cantonization or re-cantonization of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The territory of Republika Srpska is U-shaped, and the main spatial spike of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is wedged there. It paves the way for geostrategic efforts to cut Republika Srpska in Brčko region, or to fragment it by cantonization and eventually abolish it.
