The Mythological South and the Real West

Summary/Abstract: In this article the author gives a critical overview of the latest events in the Balkans and Bosnia and Herzegovina with a particular reference to relations between the Republic of Serbia and Republika Srpska. Arguing in favor of the statement that the “real-politik stand” is not the stand of the Republic of Serbia, considering different and ambivalent views on Kosovo and Republika Srpska, the author analyzes the causes and effects of the idea of “Mythological South” (Kosovo) and of “The Real West” (Republika Srpska). In conclusion, he points out that political action without any consensus and co-ordination between the official Belgrade and Banjaluka would have a long-lasting negative impact on the future of the Serbian people.
