Sławiński on interpretation. A critical analysis

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the critical reconstruction of Janusz Sławiński’s idea of textual interpretation. The author claims that Sławiński’s attitude has certain theoretical drawbacks which originate in the dualist perspective, which leads him to distinctions (e.g. between analysis and interpretation) which today seem impossible to sustain. The author stresses that it is also impossible to refrain partially from judgement in the process of interpretation, as was Sławiński’s claim. He juxtaposes this attitude with his own academic practice, based on monist and constructivist attitude towards interpretation where it is assumed that judgement is inherent to interpretation and present at its every stage of, while all interpretations are constructed.
