Summary/Abstract: In any economic, social, or urban planning initiative, the most important imperative is the protection of the environment. The full and effective realization of that challenge will only be possible when the whole society appreciates the ecological values which are shaped by the permanent education and conducted at every educational school level. In the past few decades, ecological education has developed in a dynamic way, but a special impulse was given during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro (1992). The issue of ecological education was also taken up at the Earth Summit in New York (1997), in Johannesburg (2002) and in 2012. According to the United Nations recommendations from the first three meetings, it must be present at every level of education, starting from primary school until the university level and be a crucial part of every subject in the curriculum. The teachers and administrative personnel of the school must take part in ecological education as well.
