Advantages and Disadvantages of the Operation of the European Semester as Part of the EU Economic Governance

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present the European Semester as one of the key elements of economic governance in the European Union and identify advantages and disadvantages of the operation of this process. To achieve the purpose of this article as a research method chosen descriptive analysis was chosen. The article shows that the European semester is one of the key elements of economic governance in the European Union, but it is impossible unambiguous the assessment of the functioning of this process. The actual impact of the European Semester is not yet fully known and will depend on whether individual Member States will apply to EU guidelines and whether they are relevant and actually strengthen their economy.
