Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the project of Krystyna Kofta’s life writing, which centers around a diary which gives glimpses into her careeras a novelist and a publicist. Aside from the diary’s typical functions,as seen from the perspective of a writer’s daily practice, its publishedfragments are an expression of the novelist’s political and socialengagement in women’s rights, a reinterpretation of the history ofthe Polish People’s Republic, and a promotion of cancer prophylactics. The article proves that the intermingling of the private and thepolitical elements in the writing of Kofta is a feminist writing strategywhereas the re-remembering of women’s activities (includingone’s own), experiences and sensitivity as well as building a women’scommunity are its key devices.
