Summary/Abstract: With an over 65 year history, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has demonstrated its capacity of adapting to the transformations occurring in the international security environment, a fact which allowed it to function as the main guarantor of the Euro-Atlantic security. It is this conceptual and institutional flexibility which has been the main factor making NATO one of the most important actors of the international arena. The world economic and financial crisis has been another impulse for NATO development, a stimulus determining the Alliance to enter in a new phase of its evolution.
