Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the legal position, composition and competences of the European Central Bank as the institutions of the European Union, in conjunction with the role of central national banks in the system of the European System of Central Banks. It also presents the role and importance of decision-making bodies - the Governing Council, the Executive Board and the General Council, as well as the principles and instruments of the operation of the Eurosystem.
