Summary/Abstract: It has been 80 years since the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union divided the Europe in spheres of interest and influence. The echoes of this cynical bargain did not cease to exist either in the political and diplomatic world and in the European historiography and geopolitical studies. This event remained in the European collective memory because it produced one of the greatest geopolitical surprises of the twentieth century for European diplomacy. Since this genuine geopolitical shock was consumed, analysis and debates have focused more on the historical interpretation and less on the perspective of other disciplines on the brink of history, such as, for example, geopolitics. In Romania, the research and analysis of the political, diplomatic and geopolitical consequences of this event were combined with the consequences it had on the country by annexing Bessarabia and northern Bukovina in the summer of 1940.
