Summary/Abstract: The Ohrid Framework Agreement, which brought peace in the Republic of Macedonia (the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia2), was signed on August 13, 2001. Romania contributed significantly to developing and signing this agreement because our country held the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Chairmanship in 2001. The framework agreement represented the end of the internal conflicts in the Republic of Macedonia and it addresses to respecting and protecting the rights of the ethnic communities in this country, as it is a historical document both for the Republic of Macedonia and for the Western Balkans. The Prespa Agreement was signed on June 17, 2018 and it establishes the constitutional and official name of the Republic of Macedonia, which is the Republic of North Macedonia. It also includes recognition of the Macedonian language in the United Nations and of the Macedonian citizenship, thus a historical issue regarding the fact that the Macedonians in the Republic of North Macedonia cannot claim their descent from the Antiquity Macedonians was clarified.
