Summary/Abstract: One of the most serious threats towards maritime security is represented by piracy. From a legal point of view, the main concern of the international community is represented by the fight against impunity in high sea. Starting from this point of view, the article aims at analyzing the international legal framework against piracy, stressing on the following aspects: universal jurisdiction; clearing up the ambiguities in defining piracy, as it is provided by the Law of the Sea Convention and similar provisions of other international bodies and state practice regarding the indictment of piracy.
