Summary/Abstract: This article contains a detailed review of the recently published commentary on the Czech Anti-discrimination Act number 198/2009 Coll. from the C. H. Beck edition called “Beckovy texty zákonů s komentářem”. The book comprises four parts: part I contains the text of the Anti-discrimination Act itself, part II presents a brief introduction to the legal regulation of discrimination in society. Part III focuses on theoretical issues and analyses the particular grounds on which someone can be discriminated, and part IV contains the commentary of particular articles and paragraphs. One can argue about some of the assertions in the book. For example, the explication of the “discrimination mechanism” is rather unclear. Nextly, the Czech Nocstitutional court judicature dealing with the comparison issue has been omitted. Also, the resolution of the problem with relationship between the Anti-discrimination Act and the Act number 361/2003 Coll., on the service relationship of members of the security forces, is problematic.Despite the aforementioned issues, it may be concluded that the book is not just a commentary on the Czech Anti-discrimination Act, but its qualities resemble rather a monograph on the topic of the Czech antidiscrimination legal regulation. The book contains many practical examples of discrimination in society, explains some “myths” about the discrimination issue and provides reliable definitions of mostly vague terms used by the Czech lawmaker. Also, the structure of the book is “user-friendly”. Authors of the book managed to write a commentary which can be used not only by the judges and lawyers, but also by employers, NGO workers and other readers concerned about discrimination in society.
