Summary/Abstract: This article aims at highlighting the chances and challenges faced by Romania during the implementation of the Danube Strategy. In our opinion, – if successful – the Strategy can not only bring economic and infrastructural development, but it will also further the integration of Romania to the EU. Furthermore, ever since becoming a member of the European Union, Romania strove for being an important contributor to EU neighbourhood and regional policies, strengthening the EU’s presence in the Black Sea area. The European Union Strategy for Danube Region presents a new opportunity to further Romania’s role as the main contributor to the Neighbourhood Policy in the Black Sea Region.
