Summary/Abstract: The article presents the problem of the limitation of freedom in science, the arts and journalism in the Polish Republic to the outbreak of the November Uprising 1830 in forms of censorship both institutional and non-institutional. Some examples of state censorship and the church before the year 1795 as well as censorship of the period of the Duchy of Warsaw and the Polish Kingdom (1815–1830) are presented and analyzed. The author discusses examples of restrictions on creative freedom in this period, mainly relating to the restrictions on science, literature and journalism from the fifteenth to the early nineteenth century , which shows how has changed the approach of power to the world of science and art, as well as to freedom of expression, not only in those areas, but also in journalism.
