Summary/Abstract: Health and safe working environment is an integral part of business management. It concerns the entire society and can be beneficial to economic results and social development. As working conditions keep changing, there is a need to take those effects into consideration in strategic approach and to assign appropriate resources to them, both on EU and national level. The realisation of this enterprises should combine the potential of the think tank with the most essential institutes controlling work conditions, first and foremost National Labour Inspectorate. National insurance system and its preventative actions must also be taken into account. But are the legal requirements going to meet the expectations of employers and employees who want to have safe, hygienic and – what’s most important – economically justified working conditions? The optimal solution seems to be shaping the safety culture at work, understood as individual and group values, approaches and skills which affect the style, quality and efficiency of safety at work management in enterprises.
