Summary/Abstract: The author explores the phenomenon of the archives and literary collections in Croatia in the period from 1991 to 1992 and from 2005 to 2009. The destruction of cultural heritage, archives and literary collections is particular and extremely negative phenomenon of the social conflict. Being regarded as less im¬portant, this phenomenon was not mentioned in documents and less discussed. However, the destruction of the entire cultural heritage or its particular fragments represents an "attack on memory" and indicates the social immaturity of the nation which committed this act. The author explores the aforementioned period when the archives and literary collections that were not in compliance with the newly proclaimed standards of Croatian language were purged in Croatia - that is Serbian books were destroyed. This was done not only in presence but with the full support of the former Croatian government. Thus, the author supports his argument by listing the authentic examples. He does not refrain from stigmatising the official Croatian politics and some intellectuals and at the same time praises others who resisted the pressure to destroy Serbian books.
