Cultural Introduction in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from the Perspective of Cross-Culture Communication

Summary/Abstract: Learning Chinese is a hot trend in the world in recent years. As a second language study, teachers teach not only Chinese language itself, but also Chinese culture. Language and culture are closely related. Language is a part of culture, and culture is represented by language. When students are learning Chinese they need to study Chinese culture too, so they could understand the language background, and communicate in a correct way. This paper analyses the necessity to introduce Chinese culture in the class of teaching Chinese as a second language, on the ground of the cultural differences between Chinese and Western’s. Chinese culture is a wide topic, this paper also analyses what kind and how much Chinese cultural knowledge should be introduced in the class. Lastly according to teaching practice the paper suggests four principles that teachers should take when they introduce Chinese culture in the class.
