Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the China Topic in the personal archive of the Bulgarian artist Vasil Zahariev, including his memories of a 45-day journey to China in 1955. The documents in the archive are regarded as part of the history of Bulgarian-Chinese cultural and educational exchange. On the other side the personal memories of a Bulgarian artist in China are also seen as an important contribution to our historical understanding of the 1950s. The fact that the personal archive of Prof. Zahariev is preserved in the Central State Archive of the Republic of Bulgaria means that his recollections form part of the intellectual history of the Republic, as well as the history of art in Bulgaria.
