Summary/Abstract: Our current essay approaches in a comparative manner two distinct geographical areas quite different as potentially generators of cooperation – the Balkans and Scandinavia – analyzing the regional initiatives’ role in identifying some viable solutions aimed at providing stability and prosperity within the actual European and Euro-Atlantic security environment, analysing these regional initiatives’ evolution from their establishment, the active role initially assumed and development trends in the context of new security challenges and further threats.
