Summary/Abstract: The author of the article defines the terms ‘foreigner’ and ‘refugee,’ and presents the process of integrating foreign nationals who have been granted international protection in Poland. In the process, the author discusses the collaboration between state agencies, local government, and non-governmental organizations in facilitating the integration of refugees into the society of the country to which they have come. Particular attention is drawn to the so-called Individual Integration Programme, carried out in cooperation by the refugee and a District Family Support Center (Powiatowe Centrum Pomocy Rodzinie). The article discusses the principles on which the founding of such a program is based, benefits offered within its framework, the responsibilities of refugees participating in the program, as well as the sanctions for violating the rules. It also identifies other forms of assistance guaranteed by law, which refugees may seek. The author concludes that Polish lawmakers have satisfactorily complied with the task of providing the refugees with measures that enable them to successfully integrate into society. The Individual Integration Programme is comprehensive; its relatively short duration neither demoralizes the refugees nor makes them dependent on the welfare system, and furthermore, its relatively high budget ensures that the needs of refugees are satisfied during the difficult period of adaptation.
