The Idealistic and the Reception of the Vormärz of Goetheʼs Faust in the 19th Century

Summary/Abstract: This paper considers the idealistic and the reception of the Vormärz of Goethe’s Faust in the first and partly the second half of the 19th century in Germany. The main methods of this work are the hermeneutical and the phenomenological. The purpose of the work is to show to which extent the interpretations of Goethe’s Faust and the understanding of the art of literature stand in the shadow of the hermeneutical paradigm of the idealistic and the Vormärz reception of the first half of the 19th century.
