Summary/Abstract: The present study aims at identifying and at analysing the means used by Michael the Brave in order to insert in the Transylvanian society some non-autochthonous dignitaries, mostly Wallachian boyars. Michael the Brave became prince of Transylvania at the outcome of a military campaign. Naturally, Michael tried to appoint in key-positions, in the central government, as well as in the main strategic strongholds, men he could trust. Michael tried to implant these new men into the Transylvanian society by different means: he gave them land; he appointed them in the princely council, which automatically guaranteed their membership to the Diet meetings; or appointed them castellans of some of the most important strongholds. All these non-autochthonous dignitaries acted as the Wallachian lord’s agents, both at the central and at the local levels, and fulfilled the princely instructions.
