Summary/Abstract: Ecological issues take a special place in the teachings of Pope Francis, which can be evidenced by the encyclical Laudato si’, devoted to the broad issue of ecology. The Pope lays emphasis on the integral view of the ecological issues, laying foundations on “integral ecology,” which tries to avoid a shallow and thus biased perspective on protection of natural environment. It is in this spirit that the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon region is scheduled for October 2019 in Vatican. This article is an attempt to outline the issue of integral ecology, which emerges out of the teachings of the popes, especially Pope Francis. The article presents, relying on the Preparatory Document of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon region, three elements which constitute the integral understanding of the ecological issue: respect for others and the world created by God, protection of socio-cultural wealth, which is endangered by the ecological crisis, and finally, a theological vision of the surrounding world and its social and pastoral implications.
