Summary/Abstract: This paper concerns Polish prepositional attributive phrases representing o NP and z NP structures, e.g. dziewczyna o perłowych włosach and dziewczyna z perłowymi włosami (a girl with pearly hair), respectively. The author’s claim is that these structures, although very similar, are not semantically identical. The former refers to an inherent property of a given object, while the latter shows an accidental feature. A number of linguistic arguments are presented in favour of this claim. An attempt is made also to defi ne the meanings of the discussed structures. At the end of the paper, the author discusses some problems of ordering the expressions in question and points to the necessity of further research on this subject matter.
