Summary/Abstract: The Athens insurrection of December 1944 was the culmination of a long-standing crisis. Political and social crisis, marked by spectacular shifts in the level of application and respect for institutions, to which will be added the experience of occupation, then that of resistance. In the completely new situation of liberation, this accumulation of facts will burst into a conflict of unparalleled violence, for which the events in Athens will ultimately serve as a simple detonator. Rather than focusing on the unfolding and then the effects of the Greek civil war, our task consists of following the tormented trajectory of this multidimensional crisis upstream and identifying the different points of reference.
