MUNIB MAGLAJLIĆ'S CONTRIBUTION IN PRESERVING STRATEGY OF BOSNIAN LANGUAGE: Some observations about Povelja o bosanskom jeziku and Bilješke o Povelji issued in 2002

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents some observations about Povelja o bosanskom jeziku (Bosnian language Charter), and in particular about Bilješke o povelji (Notes on the Charter) issued in 2002, prepared by Professor Munib Maglajlić. In this paper we will pay attention to the important moments of our cultural heritage, from which emerged the characteristic and special culture. In that sense, Professor Maglajlić emphasized important historical facts that should not be neglected when we talk about this culture specificity. Elaborating the importance of these facts for Bosnian language, from the way in which he understood that culture, it was clear that Maglajlić set up the language as an evolving model of culture in which all cultural systems, moral attitudes of an ethnic community, were stored. With these distinctive characteristics, such community should take its corresponding place and it should be clearly determined not only towards other nations, but also towards itself. Thanks to Maglajlić, we came to the conclusion that language was the fundamental resource of cultural identity, which represented and reflected the essence of that identity, its characteristic, and raised the reputation of language at the level of the meaningful carrier of national intelligence.
