Summary/Abstract: Challenges for the transatlantic development in the international security area are mainly connected with crisis management and, on this background, the coordination of cooperation between the European Union and NATO. The article focuses on challenges: for crisis management capabilities undertaking by NATO and the EU; in the area of cooperation between the European Union and NATO. The purpose of the article is to find the main background of the present transatlantic debates on future relations in the security sphere by identification of unsolved issues. The thesis is that transatlantic partners require common vision of their activities based on common needs, interests and long-term goals.
