Summary/Abstract: The issue of organ donation and transplantation is currently the subject of many scientific and popular scientific considerations that aim to bring the issues related to the use of organ transplantation as a modern method of treatment. It is worth noting that progress in biomedical sciences basically relies on what can be confirmed experimentally. However, new biomedical technologies are not always compatible with the foundations and essential content of Christian anthropology, especially with regard to the spiritual sphere of human beings. In this article organ donation and transplantation in the light of Orthodox theology was considered. After the presentation of the concept and the subject of bioethics, the essential problems of orthodox bioethical reflection were analysed. The point of departure was a reflection on the category of “creation”. The understanding of the human body in terms of anthropology and theology requires reference to the principles of Christian ethics, especially the sanctity of human life, self-sacrifice and responsibility. The official positions of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Moscow Patriarchate, expressed in the documents, were helpful in making a theological reflection on organ donation and transplantation.
