Summary/Abstract: The article investigates the project of the statute of Bakhrushin City Orphanage in Sokolniki through the prism of social childhood protection in Russia. An historical overview of the organization demonstrates how the orphans were looked after by the second half of the 19th century, depicts the drawbacks of the system and uncovers the issues in child education of those times, that were to be solved. The project of the statute of Bakhrushin orphanage in Sokolniki written in late 19th – early 20th centuries proves that orphanages were being improved at that period of time, and there were attempts being made to solve the abovementioned issues using the most modern European ideas of how to take care of underage orphans. Such a pioneer approach had to face the fact that the bureaucratic system of the time was not ready for such drastic changes. The article proves this by using documents from the Central Historical Archive of Moscow.
