Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to present the entanglement of niche music in the digital distributionof sound. The 21st century was supposed to be the age of niches – in accordance with theconcept of a “long tail”. How does niche music function in a situation of universal access,omnivorousness and culture of excess? Does the listener appreciate the possibility of usinga huge musical base or does the lost listener try to use the indications of the algorithm; whatare his preferences; is he listening to selected music (genre, performer)? Or perhaps, music isfor him an uninterrupted stream of sound, treated in an incredibly functional way.
