MEHMED-BEG KAPETANOVIĆ LJUBUŠAK 1839-1902

Summary/Abstract: In 1896 Mehmed-bey Kapetanović Ljubušak issued two volumes of the Eastern treasure that had different concept. The first, in which he collected 4492 "proverbs and wise sentences", he expressed himself as a collector of folk treasures and as a specialist of Arabic, Turkish and Persian literature because of his truly representative choice; and the second, in the Special criticism of proverbs, as a translator of several poems of our authors who wrote in Turkish language. Having the choice of oriental works, he had cooperation with then-well-known scholars: Ibrahim-bey Repovac, Sejfudin Lukšić, Mustafa Hilmi Hadžiomerović, Mehmed Teufik Azabagić and Ibrahim Ribić to whom he thanks in the preface of the book. Although Eastern treasure did not become successful as National treasure, it was built into the foundations of the Bosniak literary revival, as well as Mehmed-bey Kapetanović Ljubušak as its pioneer.
