The Bulgarian Prisoners of war in Greece after the First World War

Summary/Abstract: Bulgarian prisoners of war in Greece after the First World War did heavy physical labor and were fed very poorly. There was almost no medical care for them, though they suffered a lot from the influenza, malaria, tuberculosis and cholera. Greece found various reasons to delay the release of the Bulgarian prisoners of war. The last organized groups of captives returned in 1921, but the fate of thousands of Bulgarian captives in Greece remains unclear, and they never returned to Bulgaria, probably some of them were killed by the Greek authorities.
