Summary/Abstract: Poland established official political relations with Brazil relatively recently. When Poland regained her independence in 1918 Brazil was the first state where Polish diplomatic mission went to in order to establish her first in history diplomatic mission. In the history of Polish emigration to Brazil we can distinguish a few periods of Polish influxes: the first period (1629–1869), the period of mass migration (1869–1914), the interwar period (1914–1939), the second world war (1939–1945) and the period after the second world war (1945 up till now). We can presume that despite this variety, the milieu of Polish migrants to Brazil was a group, whose social and cultural status was dominated by a peasant model (communal-country, conservative). They cherished traditional values typical for Polish cultural circle. This character of Polish emigrants in some way corresponded with the experience of Brazilian society. Looking for historical circumstances of Polish presence in Brazil, the author attempted to present in many aspects Polish-Brazilian similarities.
