Summary/Abstract: Moral development through life span is a fascinating field of research. The first systematic study of children’s conceptions about games, rules, punishment, justice, and fairness was conducted by J. Piaget. L. Kohlberg is particularly well-known for his theory of stages of moral development which he popularized through several empirical studies conducted at Harvard’s Center for Moral Education. During the past five decades much more research on moral development has been accumulated. The purpose of this paper is to briefly review the major concepts and theories embodied in the literature of moral development.
