Summary/Abstract: Political science employs the concept of gender as an analytical tool to recognize and study the gendered nature of social reality. This article offers an overview of the development of gender studies perspectives in political science and the context of their institutionalization in the epistemic communities of researchers. It introduces a variety of gender studies perspectives in political science and their transformative potential for the discipline. Though the article draws on the literature of the gradual institutionalization of gender studies perspectives in political science in the Global North, its focus is directed primarily at the so far unexamined institutionalization and positionality of these perspectives in Slovak political science. The article’s contribution is two-fold – to advance our understanding of the epistemology and sociology of political science and to offer a tentative overview of the developments of gender analysis within the Slovak political science. The initial investigation suggests an inchoate development of these perspectives with a meagre but growing research output. The article concludes by outlining the open problems and the research agenda to answer them.
