Summary/Abstract: After Montenegro gained independence at the Berlin Congress in 1878, its relations with the Ottomans were at a high level. These relations were particularly good at the time of Prince Nikola and Sultan Abdulhamid II. Their friendship strengthened the relations between these two countries. After they had established good relations between their countries, Prince Nikola visited Istanbul twice. His first visit was five years after gaining independence, and the second visit was in 1899. Many newspapers in Istanbul reported on the second visit of Prince Nikola to Istanbul. The Malmut newspaper wrote about Prince’s visit several times, especially bringing the articles about Prince Nikola’s visit to Istanbul in 1899. Mentioned articles put an emphasis on Sultan’s reception of Montenegrin ruler at his castle, Yldiz. These were not the only articles regarding the Montenegrin royal family, since The Malumat has brought relating articles and photographs of prince Danilo after his wedding with princess Milena.
