Summary/Abstract: The analysis of selected literary reviews deals with Hanuš Věnceslav Tůma, a forgotten poet whose debuts faced sharp criticism in the first months of 1872. Several important representatives of Czech literary milieu opposed Tůma, pointing out the low aesthetic value of his works. The study focuses on circumstances of the time, uncovering the significant distaste of cultural center representatives for manifestation of emancipation in region-based literary periphery. This dichotomy exhibits one of the structural features of the contemporary literary field and a significant factor influencing the critical reception of this field's production.
